Chester Pitts comes here Wednesday.

REALLY hope Mayhew signs him, because then we wouldn't need to draft Okung and could focus in on Suh :]

Matt Barrows has heard from league sources that the 49ers have agreed to trade Shaun Hill to the Detroit Lions for a 7th round pick in the 2011 draft. Scott Linehan coached Hill when he was in Minnesota back in 2005.

I'd imagine Hill will immediately become the backup QB to Matt Stafford. The Lions' backups last year were Daunte Culpepper and Drew Stanton (Patrick Ramsay joined the roster at some point). Culpepper is a free agent and will probably walk. Stanton and Hill would seem to compete for the #2 spot. The Lions drafted Drew Stanton in the second round of the 2007 draft, but he hasn't developed like they hoped. He lost some time to injury and has generally struggled as a pro.

And so, thus ends the Shaun Hill era in San Francisco. We'll have a more appropriate send-off at some point this week. Whatever your thoughts on Hill, he definitely had an impact in his time with the 49ers. When you can generate the kind of debate Hill generated, you've created some kind of impact.
Very nice addition for such a cheap price. 7th round pick next year for a reliable back-up sounds good to me.

Wow, that's one heck of a deal for you guys. An experienced vet who can show Stafford the ropes of the NFL, and if need be, play a few snaps. Good work there Detroit.

As they consider using the No. 2 pick in the NFL draft on a defensive tackle -- Nebraska’s Ndamukong Suh or Oklahoma’s Gerald McCoy -- the Detroit Lions also are considering signing a restricted free agent.

The Saints’ Anthony Hargrove is scheduled to visit team headquarters in Allen Park on Tuesday. The Lions would have to sign him to an offer sheet that the Saints would not match, plus give up a third-round pick.

If the Lions acquire Hargrove, the question would be whether they still would draft Suh or McCoy second overall. They could take Oklahoma State left tackle Russell Okung, who visited team headquarters today, or trade down.

Hargrove could help solidify the defensive line, along with tackle Corey Williams, whom the Lions acquired from the Browns in a trade, and end Kyle Vanden Bosch, whom the Lions signed as a free agent.

General manager Martin Mayhew was lukewarm about signing restricted free agents when asked about the possibility last month at the NFL scouting combine.

“Obviously, there’ll be guys you’ll want to be in contact with and kind of want to see where they are,” Mayhew said. “But you’re talking about, in most cases, giving up a draft pick and then structuring a contract that won’t be matched.

“So unlike just having a draft pick -- and say you take a third-round pick and you have a young, inexpensive player for a certain number of years -- you’re talking about giving up a young, inexpensive player and adding an older, more-expensive player and giving that pick up.

“So, I mean, there are guys of interest to us in that market. But I wouldn’t say that we’re going to be really, really aggressive in that market.”

The NFL suspended Hargrove for the 2008 season for his third violation of its substance-abuse policy. He spent three months in a rehab center in South Carolina, then 10 months in another rehab center in North Miami Beach, Fla.

But Hargrove, 26, played every game for the Saints last season. His teammates voted him a recipient of the Ed Block Courage Award, given annually to a player from each NFL team who exemplifies inspiration, sportsmanship and courage.

Though listed at 6-feet-3 and 272 pounds, Hargrove played around 300 pounds in the middle last season and still was athletic enough to play on the kickoff team. He started six games and had five sacks. He also played all three playoff games, including the Saints’ victory over the Colts in Super Bowl XLIV.

Earlier in his career with the Rams and Bills, Hargrove played right end. He had a career-high 6 1/2 sacks at that position with the Rams in 2005.
Well if we sign him, Okung is basically ours. And you could probably expect a trade out of #2 to get him.

But if we sign Hargrove AND Pitts, I wonder what we will do then..?

Lions resigned Marquand Manuel.

All these moves don't change much they r just making moves for the sake of it, the same hype last year when they got Foote and Julian Peterson etc. same results.

Most Lions fans knew that last season was going to be a long one. Nobody really expected the Lions to do anything with either a rookie QB or Daunte Culpepper. Also not many people are saying that the Lions are going to be good next year, but the team is shaping up to at least contend.

Exactly lol. Only thing I said about Foote and Peterson was that it would improve our LB core.

BTW..

Detroit Lions head coach Jim Schwartz coached the man known as Pacman, Adam Jones(notes), way back in 2005 and 2006, before most of his troubles. Now Schwartz is apparently considering being the boss of Jones once more, according to Michigan Live.
In the past few years, Jones has been suspended for the 2007 season for continually not paying attention to the NFL's conduct policy and gotten into trouble for an alcohol-related incident in 2008 when he played for the Dallas Cowboys, which got him a four-game suspension.
The 26-year-old played under Schwartz when they were both were with the Tennessee Titans. Schwartz was the defensive coordinator and Jones the young gun.
"We're still in the information-gathering stage at this point,'' Schwartz told Michigan Live. "We sent (vice president of pro personnel) Sheldon White down for his workout, and he worked out good. In making the decision, it won't be a football-only decision. There will be other considerations. We want to have a comfort level with him and, like I said, we're still in the information-gathering stage.''
Looks like Pacman could be moving to Motor City.
Don't see a downside to this really, if he can behave himself he might be a great asset. I heard he had a GREAT workout.

As much as I hate Pacman, this wouldn't be a bad idea. If he screws up again, we just give him the boot. It's almost no risk involved. But hopefully more time away from the league has gotten his head on straight. (or at least straighter then what it was)

If your asking our opinion, Suh for sure.
I've met no one who wants McCoy over Suh.

McCoy's bench press scares me too much.

Lions are trying to pick up Rob Sims from the Seahawks, which would more than likely solidify the fact we are going to get Suh, I'm assuming..

Hope so lol. Would be nice if that's what they did.
Take Suh, then a CB in the 2nd. Then likely best available for the last rounds.

Lions picked up Dante Wesley who should be a good gunner on Special Teams. He was coached by the Lions new Special Teams coach, too.<object width="640" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/9cAyhCTaz2Y&hl=en_US&fs=1&rel=0"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/9cAyhCTaz2Y&hl=en_US&fs=1&rel=0" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="640" height="385"></embed></object>

Yeah nice addition to the special teams. We picked up a few guys like him, so our special teams shouldn't completely blow this year lol.

Lions traded for LG Rob Sims. Terms of the deal have not been released yet. But this is a pretty big deal for Detroit. This ends our "revolving-door" at LG and we got one solid starter.

This also means drafting Okung is highly unlikely, and that Suh is pretty much guaranteed to be a Lion.
Interesting how it comes 1 day after the Skins trade for McNabb. Guess the Lions knew it is pretty unlikely we are trading down now.

HOPEFULLY, we now trade for Hargrove and sign Pacman Jones. To continue to solidify our defense.

Despite what Washington said, everyone knows they're trying to trade Haynesworth. The Saints have discussed trading Jammal Brown to Washington for Haynesworth straight up, depending on how the draft falls.

Also, the Saints have Alex Brown in for a visit and it's gone very well. Don't be surprised if the Saints offer him a contract very soon.

Eh, no idea why I posted that in this thread. Wrong thread!
