Report: Melo would waive no-trade clause to join Celtics
Here comes yet another potential trade partner for Phil Jackson in his quest to dump ageing star Carmelo Anthony.

Anthony holds a full no-trade clause so he controls his future, but the 33-year-old is apparently would make an exception to join the Boston Celtics, sources told Gary Washburn of the Boston Globe.

There's some question as to whether the interest is mutual. Celtics general manager Danny Ainge rejected advances from the Knicks, sources told Washburn, although head coach Brad Stevens would be open to coaching Anthony.

The Knicks have also approached the Cleveland Cavaliers and Los Angeles Clippers about Anthony. So far there is little traction on any potential deal as the Clippers and Cavs are reluctant to surrender their top players in any trade.

Jackson wants Anthony gone to spark a new era of Knicks basketball centered around Kristaps Porzingis, but Anthony has maintained that he would like to stay in New York. However, that stance has softened in recent weeks as Anthony concedes he may be open to leaving were Jackson to implement a full-scale rebuilding project.

Anthony is averaging 22.6 points, 6.2 rebounds, and 3.0 assists for a Knicks team that continues to spiral out of the playoff picture. He has two more years remaining on his contract for
roughly $27 million, in addition to a 15 percent trade kicker that would be triggered should he be moved.

There are two ways to look at how Melo would affect the Celtics

We're a team with terrible rebounding margins, and acquiring Melo is at best getting rid of a starting capable big (Amir). Melo does not help our rebounding or defensive issues in the slightest. We're currently winning games because our offense has been really good, but our defense is not and Melo does not help that

That said, it's also a look that might mitigate a second big man. Who do you trust more scoring -- Kevin Love guarding Melo, or Melo guarding Kevin Love? Anthony might have enough offensive impact (something Jae Crowder does not currently possess) to force teams to go small ball, which then works in Boston's favor.

As long as we don't give up valued "assets" i have no problem trading for Melo. But he still probably doesn't make us better than Cleveland -- although I'd think it'd make us clear #2 in the East

The C's should just offer Brown and someone else to match the salaries for Melo. Honestly, who says no?
Boston's giving up nothing to get Melo, Melo's on a contender and Brown as a raw rookie is much more interesting to NY than Crawford, Rivers and Wes Johnson.

Because the Celtics can probably get Melo without giving up Jaylen Brown

Why anyone would listen to anything Frank Isola has to say is certainly interesting to me

You'll believe anything that comes out that fits your narratives about LeBron

If LeBron wanted that deal, it would already be done.

At least so I've been told by people like you and CC who think he literally runs the Cavs and controls all their moves

but, ya know

If this gets done , its clearly because lebron wanted it

Cavs organization would be fools to make that trade , but they will because the king want it

Simple

If it doesn't will you actually admit you're wrong and he doesn't run the Cavs or will he have just changed his mind?

Or the organization will tell him to chill his shit , bc that move makes zero sense for the cavs organization going forward other than that they are best friends/ banana boat betas, thats all

Him wanting to bring in love, mozgov , shump, and JR is different , bc that actually made sense so the organization did it. This time around , he might want this , but hopefully griffin has balls of steel and tells him no way bc melo is wack as fuck

So basically if it happens it's because LeBron wanted it, and if it doesn't happen it's because the organization told him no? A very convenient way for you to be right with virtually no information on the situation
