The Cavaliers and Timberwolves have discussed a trade involving Anderson Varejao, according to Cavs writer Bob Finnan.

Varejao's name constantly appears in trade rumors, but this is sourced from a reliable beat writer. "Minnesota would probably want the Cavs to take back forward Derrick Williams, which could be a deal-breaker," Finnan writes. "The Cavs could have interest in center Nikola Pekovic ... Before anyone gets excited, forward Kevin Love is not available." There's nothing imminent to worry about here, but file this away for future reference. Varejao, meanwhile, is targeting a return on Wednesday from his lingering knee injury.

Varejao for Pekovic/Williams or Barea.

Only if they don't think Pekovic resigns though.

because andy is the best center in the league, i guess.

its gotta be them thinking pek wont resign and id still imagine more would be going to minny.

He's an expiring and there's been a little talk that they won't be able to sign him to a big deal given that they will need to resign Rubio in a few years.

Andy and Rubio would both have options the same year.

I don't understand. The Cavs don't want Derrick Williams? Did I read that right?

I would assume its a 3 team deal

Unlikely, but who knows

Minny gets: Varejao
Grizz get: Derrick, Waiters, Walton (expiring), Gibson (expiring), 2013 Cavs 1st
Cavs get: Pek, Rudy Gay, Bayless

Regardless, it won't happen. The Cavs will never trade Andy, even though they should.

Why would the Grizzlies trade away their star player when they're a top 4/5 team in the West right now?

I'm not saying they wouldn't trade him but that's a package they'd take if they were trying to rebuild. If they're gonna trade him they're going to at least get close to equal value that will allow them to win now.

Also that trade makes no sense for the Cavs

All of this explains why Memphis, over the last few weeks, has made it known in preliminary talks with other teams that Rudy Gay could be available via trade, according to sources around the league.

they may not really expect equal talent back from a rudy gay trade because they clearly want to cut costs

They aren't gonna trade him for something that hurts their chances of competing in the West this season.

They're trying to trade him to avoid the lux tax, he has a insane salary.

I don't think they will until at least the offseason.
