Ryan Braun.
Congrats to him.
Congrats to him.
he was essential because of who he had around himCongratz to him, very well deserved. Helped carry his club to the postseason. He was essential to that team making the playoffs.
Braun also had a higher OPS than Kemp btw. But the numbers were very close between the 2.Matt Kemp beat him in every offensive category (except batting average but Kemp had a higher OBP so it's irrelevant..), and hes a better defensive player.. Makes no sense.
And if you want to use the post-season nonsense argument, Justin Upton was a lot more important to Arizona, then Braun to Milwaukee.
He still had to drive those players in and he got the job done. Kemp had slightly better stats, but the voters take into account a postseason berth heavily, its just the way it is.he was essential because of who he had around him
switch him and kemp and the standings dont change at all. brewers might even be better
this is so dumb. i hate the voters. i knew i would be disappointed

dont you see what im saying though? He still had to drive those players in and he got the job done. Kemp had slightly better stats, but the voters take into account a postseason berth heavily, its just the way it is.
We're at a point now where the analysis of the game has changed greatly. We have much more advanced statistics, we take into account different ballparks, level of competition, etc. It's pretty sad the voters haven't moved up and made their decisions based on more aspects of the game, such as sabermetrics, pitchers you face, ballpark factors, etc.Braun also had a higher OPS than Kemp btw. But the numbers were very close between the 2.
Yea, you tell em GMF. Go knock on their doors and tell them that they should use more advanced statistics to determine awards. I think they put a lot of thought into it, they just have a different mentality which is slowly changing as time progresses. To say writers arent being more open to it is incorrect. We just had a pitcher win the AL MVP and prior to that another pitcher win the AL Cy Young with a 13-12 record. The voters keep making their votes one way because people back them up by saying "It's just the way it is". Well, if we analyze the game more indepthly, that shouldn't be "the way it is". Once we start knocking them on it, it'll force them to put more thought into their decisions.
you completely missed my pointYea, you tell em GMF. Go knock on their doors and tell them that they should use more advanced statistics to determine awards. This might lead to writers voting on more players who dont make the playoffs, who knows. Kemp was equally deserving, but like I said the writers heavily consider a teams playoff contention.
I was joking around. I just dont think as baseball fans we are going to change their opinions, old people dont change the way they think easily. The other problem is which advanced statistics are to be credible and which are to be dismissed. You cant use all of them, but you cant also negate them all. Maybe like OPS+, UZR, and WAR.you completely missed my point
My point was not they value Playoff berth over advanced statistics. And they continue to do it because we say "thats just the way it is". If we stopped saying that, they would change. If they valued the advanced statistics, ballpark factor, level of pitching competition, etc, we wouldn't be having this discussion.
