This has nothing to do with Stafford. Why does Stafford have to be a better player than Carter to point out a wrong statement that he made?
Exactly.
I don't understand why Stafford's talent level is being put into question because of this..

Calvin Johnson is an elite WR, no question about it.

Chris Carters comments today:
Calvin Johnson is slowly changing Cris Carter's opinion, but the ESPN analyst said during a radio appearance today that the Detroit Lions star still isn't an elite wide receiver.

“I believe there’s really four elite wide receivers,” Carter said on the Mike and Mike show. “That would be Greg Jennings, Roddy White, Larry Fitzgerald and Andre Johnson. Those guys separated themselves over the course of the last several years from the other receivers.

“Now, Calvin Johnson is playing the best football of his career. He’s getting single coverage now, he’s beating single coverage. He had double coverage in the red zone; him and (quarterback Matthew) Stafford have great chemistry together. He is playing at a top-five level, but before this season, he wasn’t better than those other four guys.”

Carter didn't rank Johnson among his top six receivers during a radio segment this summer. He said today DeSean Jackson, one of the players he initially put ahead of Johnson, "really shouldn’t have been in" his list.

Johnson leads the NFL with six touchdown catches through three games and made a highlight-reel 40-yard over-the-shoulder grab to set up Jason Hanson’s winning field goal in Sunday’s overtime victory over the Minnesota Vikings.

“He’s starting to come into his own, which he should be,” Carter said. “He should be coming into his prime, and he’s only going to get better. He’s a phenomenal player.”

Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford tweeted today: "Does anyone think 8 tds in 4 weeks will change chris carters mind about an 'elite' receiver? #megatron."

Carter also said he isn’t surprised by the Lions’ 3-0 start, based on their schedule and their offensive firepower. The Buffalo Bills and Green Bay Packers are the NFL’s only other unbeaten teams.

“Matthew Stafford is a really talented thrower of the football,” Carter said. “Last year, we really got Aaron Rodgers, especially down the stretch and in the playoffs, but there’s not a lot of quarterbacks that can throw the ball better than Matthew Stafford can. If he can stay healthy, they’re going to score a lot of points.”

Andre has never been a "Im better than everybody" type player.. hes very humble.. Hes not going to say "Im the best in the league"

Andre > Fitz > Calvin.

Runs his routes well, fast, can outjump any CB by a couple feet, catches basically anything that comes his way.
I mean, what type of answer are you looking for here?
Watch some Lions games, see the catches he makes.

How ?

I am stating Stafford = a nobody who is only know'n for holding the clipboard

Carter = Top 5 WR of All Time

Stafford should just STFU and worry about the playoffs.
Rice, Hutson, Berry, Largent, Moss, Owens, and Tim Brown are all arguably better than Cris Carter. It is a travesty Carter isn't in the Hall of Fame yet.

I don't think this is any of Stafford's business either, although I still don't mind it too much. He is protecting his receiver, and while this should be between Carter and Megatron, I still agree with him a bit as well. Granted, I agree with Boda on that last reply, that an elite corner could cover him, but not shut him down. The guy is probably the best wide receiver in the game right now, and I still laugh when I hear about Carter saying he's not even elite. Cris is wrong, but Stafford should let Johnson take care of his own business.

Well Johnson is one of the quietest players in the league and when they asked him about he really just brushed it off. He probably wouldnt say anymore about it still, but Matt Stafford took his place and talked for him.

It actually looks better if teammates are supporting a player publicly. For CJ to say it is one thing, but for Stafford to say it shows the bind between these players and that just because 1 player brushed it off doesn't mean the rest won't.

Well I think we can all agree thats its very nice to see Andre, Fitz, and Calvin be such humble and great players. Something far away from the diva mindset that has plagued WR's in the past.
