Brett Anderson had a strong 2009 for the Athletics, going 11-11 in the majors as a rookie. With the addition of a new pitch, Oakland expects him to deliver on some of that promise.
"This year, he's mixing in a changeup, to keep hitters from sitting on his 95-mph-plus heat and low-90s slider," reported the San Francisco Chronicle. "The change, remember, is the pitch Tim Lincecum added to his repertoire just before winning two Cy Young Awards. It has become Lincecum's most effective pitch, and Anderson's change is showing promise."
Anderson is third in the rotation, behind Ben Sheets and Justin Duchscherer. With the addition of the change, and another year of experience, the As believe that he will do major damage from the No. 3 spot.
