As for my take on this.
I never liked SVG. Not because of his ability to coach, but his shots at our team during the days when we would meet Orlando in the playoffs almost yearly. He's obviously a very good coach, and would be the best one we've had since Larry Brown. I suppose I'll have to get over the fact I don't like him. But I think he will be a good coach for our team.

As for the GM aspect. I don't know how I feel about it. Ultimately I'm glad a person without ties to the team will be running it, but at the same time I'm skeptical as to how it would work out.

Just glad that this will likely be done prior to the draft. Figured it would drag on.

I don't think he's worthy of this much power at all but he's a big coaching upgrade

Definitely don't think he's worthy of it, doesn't have the track record for that much power. But that doesn't necessarily mean he won't do well with that power.

Wanting to hire Otis Smith is one reason you shouldn't give SVG total control.

Don't think Otis would have much power in anything. Just a guy to help him along in the process.

He'd be the GM, and either way you don't want Odis Smith helping with anything.

Yeah but Stan would have final say in everything.

But I guess Otis is just one of a few names being considered. Nothing imminent there.

Van Gundy to coach, run front office
Marc Stein [ARCHIVE]

ESPN.com | May 13, 2014
The Detroit Pistons have reached an agreement in principle with Stan Van Gundy to make him their new coach and president of basketball operations, according to sources with knowledge of the talks.

Sources told ESPN.com on Tuesday night that Van Gundy and the Pistons have verbally agreed to a five-year pact worth an estimated $35 million, with an official announcement on course for this week.

I don't believe in giving basketball coaches the Jimmy Johnson deal, but that's just me.

Glad we got this all locked up prior to the draft. This should be a very interesting off-season.

My guess with Van Gundy is that he'll move Monroe and put Smith at PF.

i can't post the article but hes already said yes going to look to sign and trade. another part of it is why a fellow gm thinks he took the job and said it was one of the best out because of drummond.
