They needed another playmaker. When Harden struggles, the team has no chance because they can't run plays through anyone else.
I agree but there are better fits

And as much as you say that I don't think Denver could've gotten much more AND it speeds up Mudiay's development which is a great thing

It makes sense for Denver too. But it's a homerun for Hosuton.

Is this a good fit though? Lawson is a worse defender and a worse shooter than Beverley and takes way more of the ball. Obviously he's a better player but do they want to take the ball out of Harden's hands?
just look at it as they replaced terry with lawson
Huge win

They gave up literally nothing
They could even bring him off the bench idc

I just think Lawson the name is better than Lawson the player.

Lawson the player is still better than the crap they gave up, and I never have to hear mexi talk about Nick Johnson like he actually has a chance to be good.

Of course he is better, but this league has proven time and time again that fit and continuity win out. Lawson may be an upgrade on paper, but if he doesn't fit that roster the team will be worse.

And there is no reason to believe he would be a bad fit. You can't just keep trotting Harden out there with a bunch of floor spacers and a rim protector. It will produce great regular seasons, but when they get into the post-season and Harden is off for a few games or for an entire series, they're done. At some point you need another guy who can get shots for himself and others. Is Lawson going to make that big a difference? Time will tell, but they needed someone like him to take away some of Harden's ball handling responsibilities.

There's numerous reasons to question how he will fit, offensively and defensively. I don't think he will be a bad fit, but this isn't a home run for them fit wise. There are better PG's out there to put next to Harden.

What better PG could they have gotten for Nick Johnson or the MLE?

That's not what I'm referring to. They could have easily waited until the deadline or next offseason when pretty much everyone has max space.

But none of this is the point, we are talking about fit. I don't think it's a great fit, I'm honestly not even sure if Lawson is a better fit than Beverley.

If Beverley is better than they'll start him instead. Lawson in the 2nd unit is better than Nick Johnson by 10000%
