Bob Nightengale of the USA Today reported that the New York Yankees are keeping a "close eye" on Francisco Liriano of the Minnesota Twins.

Similarly, the Twins are "keeping tabs" on Yankees prospects in case they decide to trade the 27 year old starting pitcher.

Liriano is under team control until the end of the 2012 season.

I'd love for us to get him as long as they're not asking for Montero.

UPDATE: Nightengale told Jim Bowden of XM Radio that Liriano could be dealt to the Yankees sometime in the next two weeks. Nightengale noted that the deal could start with Ivan Nova or Joba Chamberlain.

We have to believe any deal between the two for Liriano would have to include impact talents going back to the Twins, and neither Nova nor Chamberlain seems to fit that bill.

As we've stated previously, one among slugger Jesus Montero and pitchers Manny Banuelos and Dellin Betances may have to be part of the conversation, with backstops Gary Sanchez and Austin Romine potential inclusions, as well.

Lariano is barely worth Montero IMO. If that is the asking price, if I were Cashman, I would break talks immediately.

Chamberlain would be a better piece to trade.

romine and montero? twins are crazy....

like i know they are the top two prospects in the yankees farm, but your asking for two players of the same position, and the Twins have Joe freakin Mauer!

a Romine, Vizcaino, Chamberlin, Nova, Marte, Johnson for Liriano, Capps, Kubel deal would be good for both teams imo

Lol made up proposals.

Either way, I like a Lariano for Chamberlain deal. Kinda gives both guys a new start.

Liriano for Joba would be a steal for the yankees.

Either way, I like a Lariano for Chamberlain deal. Kinda gives both guys a new start.

unlike what you did, i looked at potentials and actual success of the players, along with salaries
like Johnson and Marte are like $9 mil in salary.

Since prospects don't make that much $, adding in high salary guys for the players is smart

plus in my deal, the yanks get kubel, who is on his last year, and will play DH this year. He is exactly what the Yanks should want right now. Capps is an extremely good reliever, especially when he would be the 7th inning man.

and Liriano would be the #3 man in the rotation, which could break up the L-R-R-R-R rotation that it is currently at a bit.

the twins get joba, who has a high ceiling, Romine, who as a Sox fan i vew as potentially better than montero in the future, due to his power, and expiring contracts.

its a win win for my deal

What I meant by a made up proposal is that I see them all the time, and they are always a pipedream. Seriously do you think a trade like that would happen. This is not how trades work, their main goal isn't to match salary to salary and stuff like that. The proposal has no realism to it what so ever, plus the Yankees lose anyways.

? the yankees would actually be much better with this trade.

as good as romine is, where will he play in NYY? sitting behind montero wont help him in his progress as an MLB player.

the only real loss is Vizcaino, but getting back Capps and Liriano and Kubel is much better than Vizcaino

i dont see how the yanks lose that deal

Dude you're acting like Lariano is Cy Young winner. He's a number three starter, and all of a sudden you expect them to move three young players with potentially high ceilings for him. Then you have a basic swap of position for position. Cashman laughs hard at your offer, and finds another team he can get a left handed number three starter from.

I'm not moving Montero or any of the three B's for a guy who has had one healthy season, fuck that. Twins are outta their mind.

I had high hopes for Joba but I would much rather take a risk on Lariano.
