Is he the next great player to not get a ring?

No, because he's just a volume scorer. Great players play both ends of the floor. Great players make their teammates better. Great players know a thing or two about the assist stat.

Carmelo will never win a title because Carmelo is about Carmelo.

And that's exactly why I don't even view him as a superstar.

I don't think he will, at least with the Knicks. He just seems too selfish.

KD had a ast% of 21.8% this year while Melo was at 14.1%.

Which matters why?  22% is above average for a wing and 14% is very poor.

Melo had an ast% of 21 last year, if you just want to look at singular years.

He said great players know a thing or two about the assist stat. Melo seemingly knows about it just as much as Durant.

That 21 for Melo was a fluke, he's always been bad in that area aside from maybe 1 season early in his career.  While Durant took a huge step forward minus Harden.

Melo's not great on D, but you guys are thinking of his defense from the past. he really improved defensively this year. still a liability, but he's not as bad as he used to be.

He's a liability on the defensive end, which is exactly why he's not a superstar. He can score a ton of points; big deal. That's all you're guaranteed from him on a nightly basis. He won't assist consistently. He won't crash the boards consistently. He won't defend consistently.

He is not a complete player by his own choice. His very weaknesses could have been fixed years ago, in Denver, but he's too stubborn.

He's essentially the Donovan McNabb of pro basketball. Too stubborn to get any better and work on the things he's criticized for. The potential is all there; he's not reaching it.
