Veteran free-agent cornerback Nathan Vasher worked out for the Detroit Lions on Thursday, according to a league source.

Vasher was released by the San Diego Chargers in August after signing a two-year contract with the team in March.

Vasher spent his first six NFL seasons with the Chicago Bears, recording 164 tackles (137 solo) and 19 interception, including eight in 2005 when he was picked for the Pro Bowl.

That same season, Vasher returned a missed field-goal attempt 108 yards for a touchdown, the longest play in NFL history at the time.

The Bears cut Vasher in March after watching his play drop off the last several seasons, when he was slowed by groin and wrist injuries. He was demoted from the starting lineup last season after yielding a game-winning 50-yard touchdown pass during the opener against the Green Bay Packers.
Was hoping we'd sign him this off-season. Hopefully we do sign him, we need all the CB help we can get.

Surprised the Vikings aren't all over any DB on the free-agent market. They looked awful last night, Brees torched him despite not putting a lot of points on the board.

Vasher is horrible. Hasn't been good since 2005. There's a reason Ron Rivera (former Bears Defensive Coordinator) cut him in San Diego, he's done.
