Was a good press conference.
Basically re-affirmed the fact the organization is confident with Cabrera playing the 3B spot.
Should be an interesting year, can't wait.

I don't feel bad for Inge whatsoever lol.

Everyone on the Indians better learn how to bunt to the left side of the infield, our only shot to compete.

how long will the 3B experiment last?
last time they did it on 07, it lasted about a week or 2

Miggy is older and fatter now

just stupid to me that they're going to do it

and i dont want to hear about Vmart. i dont care if he can only DH, they're going to have to trade him when he gets healthy because there is no way all 3 of them can fit in the lineup at once

It's a statement of fact that Fielder is among the best power hitters in the game, and maybe is the best left-handed power hitter. But it's also taken as fact among scouts that Fielder is a subpar first baseman who works at defense but is simply not deft at handling anything in the dirt -- short-hops on throws or ground balls. And if Miguel Cabrera is correct in his assertion that he is moving to third base -- and telling him he isn't playing that position could become a massive political problem for Detroit -- then the Tigers would field some of the sport's worst defenders in at least three of four infield positions -- first base, shortstop and third base. Yes, Cabrera came up through the minors as a shortstop and third baseman, but that was 60-70 pounds ago. Generally, baseball executives have been veering toward increased emphasis on run prevention, and the Tigers' decision to sign Fielder takes this in the opposite direction.

But it's clearly just us on this site who think Peralta, Fielder and cabrera are bad defenders.

Peralta did have a better season, but I don't see that level of play on defense again. It could happen, but more than likely not. I think the 3B thing could possibly work for cabrera, but since he has gained a good amount of weight, even though the tigers have made him get in shape, I still don't see him getting down that much. I think I remember seeing something espn about cabrera have like 4 or something errors at 3b in just a few games back in 2008 that aint good lol. Cabrera or Fielder at some point will move to DH, possibly next season and I see us trading Vmart for a 3B possibly.

I never even talked about Peralta or Fielder defensively, I just talked about Cabrera at 1B. Even I said him moving over to 3B is well in question, I have no idea what will happen but I'll remain confident until he shows it's way too much for him. He held his own at first, I'm hoping he does the same at third, even though it's going to be a challenge, it's going to be difficult. Hopefully he proves everybody who doubts his ability, wrong. That's all I can hope for.

Peralta was good last year and Cabrera was very solid. I don't give a fuck what Buster Olney says. I guarantee I watched more Tigers games then he did last season.

The metrics say Cabrera wasn't solid
and who cares if he was "solid" to you, he's not a 1B anymore. he's at the hot corner

cheato is right, teams are just going to bunt towards 3rd

Let's see how he looks before opening day before we start saying he can't at least handle it.

If Leyland and the rest of the organization isn't worried, I'm not worried right now.

The same Leyland that was batting Delmon Young 3rd and Alex Avila 8th?

That got us in the ALCS? Yeah.
He's forgotten more about the game than the two of us have learned.

As much as I rip on Leyland, he is still a great manager. He baffles me sometimes, but it always seemingly works out.

meh

pretty much all managers are overrated. maybe Leyland gives good speeches, but his in game work is brutal to me

TLR, Washington, Leyland all were awful in the playoffs. They succeeded because of their roster

Wasn't really awful. He made some good decisions in that Yankee series.

Miguel has been working out all of season to get in shape and he says he's in the best shape of his life right now. Might not be the best shape but yea here is a pic from his personal trainer just recently.
