The Tigers announced that they've released infielder Brandon Inge, Danny Knobler of CBSSports.com reports (Twitter links). Detroit will call up Brad Eldred to take Inge's place on the active roster.

Surprised no one has said anything about this yet.

Keep it short a sweet. He was a great guy to have in the clubhouse, and an amazing defender, but this was a couple years overdue, and not surprised about it at all. He was only being kept around for his glove, and with the sloppiness at 2nd, I knew this was right around the corner. Still sad to see him go, but wish him the best.

I'm not rejoicing about it, he was apart of the Tigers for 12+ years, it sucks it had to end this way. He was a great guy and loved playing for the city of Detroit and the Tigers. I'm sure there's some that will be overly happy, but he deserves some respect for what he has done for the Tigers through the 12 years. It was quite evident that things just weren't working out and it was just a matter of time before he was released and it happened to be today. Hopefully another team will pick him up to give him a chance, maybe a change of scenery will do him good. There's been a lot of Tigers who didn't pan out and then went to other teams and produced and ended up turning their careers around, so anything is possible. He wasn't the only one struggling, he's not the only one to blame, but he has been struggling for far too long now and just didn't really have a spot for him. I'll forever be thankful for all of the great things Brandon Inge did for the Tigers and I hope nothing but the best for him going forward.
