Tom Thibodeau is attempting to remain unplugged as much as possible from the world of basketball following his dismissal as head coach of the Chicago Bulls.

"I really want to treat this year like a sabbatical," said Thibodeau.

For the first time since 1991, Thibodeau is unemployed and he's a notorious workaholic.

Thibodeau continues to live in Chicago, liking the restaurants and the proximity of the location to the rest of the country.

Thibodeau is also visiting NBA camps with Charlotte last weekend, San Antonio this week and then a stretch with the Clippers.

"You learn from everything you go through," Thibodeau says, "and you want to put that experience to use."

He's a really good coach, but being hard-headed just doesn't work in the NBA anymore. The players have too much power. That's the only thing he needs to learn, imo. You can't be a control freak and coach in this league. You either start with your system understanding that you'll have to tweak it to players' strengths or you eventually burn bridges and get tossed out of town.

More like he just wants to collect that 9 million dollars the Bulls owe him.

Exactly like Steve Kerr did. He didnt try to make major changes with the teams gameplan and it paid off very well. He made people buy into that team concept.

Thibideau needed to allow more freedom in the practices and used his bench a bit more last year.
