The Cardinals have named former big league catcher Mike Matheny as their new manager, according to Jon Paul Morosi of FOX Sports.

Isn't Sandberg the manager for a minor league team? That's a pretty big jump (even though I know this guy who got hired has no experience what so ever, but the Cardinals front office knows him so it's whatever).. He's got to get on someone's staff at the MLB level, then he'll be considered for managing jobs.

i guess
but he cant even get a major league job

it's just, i see don mattingly, mike matheny, robbie ventura have zero experience and get the job
donnie was just a hitting coach. meh

if i was in charge of a team, i would give Sandberg a shot. HOF, paid his dues in the minors, but thats another topic. i have no idea how to judge managers who i havent seen

good luck to matheny, he was a good player

Mattingly was the Yankees' bench coach for a season or two.

A bench coach at the major league level is probably a better position than a minor league manager.
