The potential BCS-busting Broncos are becoming a victim of their own success, according to WAC commissioner Karl Benson. Benson says that 10 major-conference schools have turned down a chance to host Boise State in the 2011 season -- and the Broncos aren't even asking for a return date.
"They're running into a situation where nobody will schedule them," Benson said. "Nobody will take them."
And therein lies the dilemma of mid-majors: They get criticized for not playing a tough enough schedule and lose points in the BCS standings, but no BCS-conference schools are willing to play them.
That's why the WAC has hired a p.r. firm to try to help get Boise State into a BCS bowl. It worked in 2007 for Hawaii, which lost to Georgia in the Sugar Bowl.
