Erik Spoelstra and the Miami Heat are finalizing a multiyear contract extension, according to sources.

Spoelstra likely staved off a bidding war next summer by choosing to re-sign with the only franchise he's ever known.

Spoelstra's new deal is expected to be made official ahead of the start of Heat camp this week.

Spoelstra, 42, is 260-134 (.660) in five seasons as Miami's coach, including three straight trips to the NBA Finals and two titles. He's 50-29 (.633) in five trips to the postseason.

yeah, extend Spo! It's not like he's riding the coattails, at all. No coach has ever had more handed to him.

He deserves some credit for keeping those egos in check.

I'm glad he's back. He's a smart guy, good defensive coach. I'd say he has to learn when to let the superstars do their thing and when to take over. But after two chips, it's not like he's doing much wrong.

And what exactly has he gotten handed to him? Yea, an incredible team, but what good has that gotten him? Not like any credit has gone to him for anything. Even Mike Brown got a COY.

Only thing he got handed was incredible pressure.

Anyone against the extension is just trying to be different and spark argument. He literally has given them no reason to not extend him. He keeps winning

Yeah haha. I think most coaches would have been fired by now with that team. He has managed them perfectly.
