The Saints are expected to run a "more conventional" rushing attack this season with Mark Ingram as the "bell cow."
Ingram is a classic back with workhorse potential and a solid all-around game. After speaking to league sources, Yahoo's Jason Cole projects that the Saints' ground attack will mirror more closely the team's 2009 rushing offense as opposed to other years. New Orleans ranked No. 7 in rushing attempts that season. They were 30th in 2010, 26th in 2008, and 26th in 2007. If the Saints play offense as planned, their pass attempts will also be down.

I can see this obviously. You don't go invest and jump back into the first round to snag Mark Ingram and not give the kid a bright early chance. They obviously want to be more in control of games and work to open up the PA passing game more.

We can run the ball, it's just up to Coach Payton not to get pass happy. Our interior line is probably one of the better in the league, run behind Jahri and Nicks all day.

Yep, that and injuries have held us back. The main difference between our team last year and our super bowl team was our running game so if we improve that I think we're in for another great season.

Yeah injuries were brutal last year, our most healthy back was Ivory who I think only played in 3 complete games all year.

If the Saints get the ground game going, they'll be even scarier, a balanced team that can run and pass. Scary. They still need to improve that defense a bit though.

4th in yards per game
7th in points per game
7th in first downs per game
5th in third down percentage
3rd in forced fumbles
3rd in fumble recoveries
4th in passing yards per game
1st in passing touchdowns overall
15th in QB rating
16th in rushing yards per game
17th in rushing yards per play

Our defense is more than good, and will only get better with some new players and guys coming back from injury.

I've never been impressed with the Saints defense.. They are better now causing turnovers, that's where they've really gotten good. I just feel their defense as suspect, I've seen teams run all over them and pass all over them, but they have gotten better, still some work to be done. For some reason their defense just doesn't scare me, the Bengals offense sucked this year and we were passing all over the Saints and no, I am not just basing it off of that game.

With all due respect, you really couldn't be more wrong. Ever since Gregg Williams has come in he's completely turned around this defense. The numbers show that. The numbers don't lie. Saints can get better on run defense, but our pass defense has been one of the best the past two years.

I said it has gotten better, I still don't think it's a top defense. You are right, ever since Williams became defensive coordinator the defense has improved, but I still am not sold on them, I don't even care about the stats. They aren't anything like a Steelers defense.

In 2009...

Total Defense (YPG) - 25th

Passing (YPG) - 26th

Rushing (YPG) - 21st

Last year was definitely an improvement, but I'm sure the SOS helped them numbers out a bit. I'm not saying they are a bad defense at all, I just don't think they are a top defense.

The Saints win games because the defense causes turnovers at critical times and the offense does their job.

We don't need anything close to the Steelers defense with our offense. Truth is, if our defense can keep the offense under 24 points chances are we win the game.
