We’ve all seen the jaw dropping throws, and the ridiculous numbers Ryan Mallett has put up the past couple of years at Arkansas under Bobby Petrino. Now sources inside the Arkansas program are shedding some light on the rumors that Mallett has substance abuse problems.

NFL Draft Monsters has a policy of not publishing a story without two independent confirmations. We were approached this week, by a source inside the Arkansas program who told us the he has personally witnessed Mallett use both marijuana, and cocaine. This corroborates an account given to us a few months back, that we had been unable to substantiate.

Both sources spoke on the condition of anonymity, and NFL Draft Monsters has a policy of not compensating sources in any way for stories.

An email sent to the University of Arkansas requesting comment has not been returned at this time.

We will bring you more as this story develops.

UPDATE: Ryan Mallett has denied these allegations through a reporter in Northwest Arkansas. We at NFL Draft Monsters are standing behind this report, however, and we will continue to follow this story as it develops.

Well I am a life long Hogs fan and have a lot of insight on the school so...

We all knew he smoked cali trees. But cocaine is news to me. I personally had my assumptions that I kept to myself but I do not think it's cocaine, it is more than likely meth. [it only stays in your system 3 days] Mainly because of his face, how his cheeks are slightly drawn in.

I hate this shit. The kid has so much potential but I always had assumed in my head the kid might be screwing with meth or coke.

Everyone knew he smoked the trees, most of the college athletes due now days. And there's so many ways to get it out of your system than the typical month long wait. Back when I smoked I could get it out in less than a week.

Anyways, this explains everything really. Why his draft stock is so bad. There has never been a kid this good, putting up these killer numbers at a big school and get such bad reviews.

Not saying he's guilty but damn if it doesn't look good for him.

*edit- notice the cheeks? Ugh...

Doesn't every college kid have a substance abuse problem?

True but it's usually weed and liquor. Coke or meth will end your career in a heartbeat. Just ask Matt Jones who ironically played for the Razorbacks too.

Well...Matt Jones made it to the NFL and was then caught snorting lines off a cd case, inside a Honda Civic. Everyone has problems and this could hurt his draft status but all he needs to do is prove to teams that he fucked up and got the necessary treatment to kick it.

This only increasing the likelyhood that he drops to the Vikings at pick 12. You know we love to take these types of gambles on propsects.

Could hurt his draft status? I think it already has!

I doubt he falls that far, the Dolphins are showing a big interest in him.

I don't think he sees an epic collapse b/c of these allegations...but I do think teams who are targeting a QB start looking more at Gabbert first.

Yeah the thread I made about RM being underrated and comparing him to Gabbert is clearing up in my head now. I see why they got him going before RM now in the draft.

But regardless if the allegations are true or not I hope to god Miami takes Mallett if he is available, which is likely the case. My Steelers are fine at QB, :) .

Gabbert already was the clear 1, and Mallett based on his game play was already slipping to about 15-20.

Complete moron... You just don't get mixed up in drugs, especially when you're about to become a millionaire.

Actually.. It's like this

Gabbert 1-10
Locker 10-15
Newton 15-23
Mallet 23-2nd round.

Andy Dalton is a real sleeper though. I could see him creeping up into the late 1st with a really good Senior Bowl and combine. I know Jaguars Gene Smith said on the Pete Prisco show yesterday that Dalton is easily in the top 3 QBs of this draft class, and if he does good throughout the rest of the workouts and stuff, he wouldn't have any problem taking him with the 16th overall pick.

I don't see the Jaguars selecting Andy Dalton with the 16th pick.
Nobody also saw the Jaguars selecting Tyson Alualu with the 10th pick last year, but we did and it paid off greatly. Never try to guess what we're gonna do.
