The Yankees and free-agent closer Mariano Rivera are closing in on a new contract that will pay him $17 million.

Rivera, 41, is seeking a two-year deal but the Yankees have not yet agreed to go beyond one more season.

New York, however, doesn't appear to have a problem giving Rivera a raise over his $15 million salary in 2010.

If he wants more 2 years, they'll give him 2 years. Whether it be now or sometime during the season. Although, he did have a rough year last year. So, I can see why they are hesitant to extend past this year. Yes, he is one of the greatest closers of all time, but he is getting older and that comes to be a factor.
