Cedric Benson has been a highly productive runner for the Cincinnati Bengals, but he can't seem to run away from trouble. The latest off-field problem comes from a Yahoo! Sports report that Benson has been notified by the NFL that he has been suspended for three games.

According to a tweet from Yahoo!'s Michael Silver, Benson is receiving the ban for violations of the league's player-conduct policy that happened during the offseason lockout.

With the report noting Benson is set to appeal the suspension next Tuesday, the situation isn't expect to affect his status for this week's home game against the San Francisco 49ers. But there's a chance he could miss three other winnable contests from Weeks 4 through 6 (vs. Buffalo, at Jacksonville, vs. Indianapolis).

Benson faced his latest assault charge on July 17, stemming from a family-related incident in Austin, Texas. It was resolved with Benson paying a $4,000 fine and serving five days of a 20-day jail sentence. After his Sept. 3 release, he played in the Bengals’ first two games, totaling 180 rushing yards and a touchdown.

If Benson is out awhile, Cincinnati would need to lean on backup Bernard Scott, a third-year player out of Abilene Christian. Scott, who has shown flashes with big runs in the past, would be in line to get a heavy workload. In addition to fresher legs, he would provide more speed and explosiveness than the more powerful Benson, who turns 29 in December.

Ahh oh well, he hasn't been very productive this year anyways, we couldn't even run on the Broncos last weekend. Not too worried about this. Hopefully Scott and Leonard will fill in nicely or whoever will take over.
