"Joel Peralta received an eight-game suspension Thursday from Major League Baseball after being caught Tuesday with pine tar inside his glove. Peralta plans to appeal the suspension and will remain on the active roster until his case is heard.
Peralta, the first pitcher in franchise history suspended for this type of violation, was ejected in the eighth inning of Tuesday's win against the Nationals after home plate umpire and crew chief Tim Tschida said he found "a significant amount of pine tar" inside Peralta's glove.
The search was prompted by Washington manager Davey Johnson, who approached Tschida after Peralta completed his warm-up pitches before the start of the bottom of the eighth inning."
