MIAMI - Ray Allen will take less money for a chance at another NBA championship.

Allen told the Miami Heat on Friday night that he intends to accept their contract offer and leave Boston after five seasons, even though the Celtics [team stats] could pay him about twice as much as the reigning NBA champions will be able to next season. Miami could only offer Allen the mini mid-level, worth about $3 million for next season.

Heat owner Micky Arison tweeted the news just after 9:30 p.m. - or about 2:30 a.m. Saturday in Europe, where Arison has been for several days.

He'll probably get a lot of hate for this, but it was a smart move by him.

Certainly a nice pickup for Miami. I also heard talks about a sign and trade with Houston for Camby.
Oh boy......

He's going to have his worst season in terms of 3PT% in his career

Book it.

Actually would've been a nice pickup for Boston. Would probably mean Kevin Martin is on his way out, nonetheless good pickup by Miami

It helps their team. He wont make all those 3's he used to, but wouldn't surprise me if he made some game winners here and there. He makes the important ones more often than not.

Ray Allen has a $3.2 million player option for the 2013-14 season.

Allen and Rashard Lewis signed their free agent contracts with the Heat last Wednesday, giving Miami a pair of three-point shooters who can stretch the floor for LeBron James and Dwyane Wade.

Lewis will earn about $1.35 million next season, with a $1.4 million player option in 2013-14.
