I'm sure most of you know the Competition Committee put forward the proposal and NFL Owners voted 28-4 to PASS it. Only the Vikings, Ravens, Bills, and Bengals voted against the overtime rules change...which only applies to the playoffs.
Now if the team that wins the OT coin toss scores a TD on their first possession, game over, as always BUT if the team that wins the OT coin toss only scores only a FG in their first possession, then the other team gets a possession. Now if the other team puts up a FG in that possession, the game goes on under regular sudden death rules BUT if the other scores TD in that possession, game over.
So basically the team losing the coin toss in OT only has a shot if the winning coin toss team doesn't score a TD in their first possession.
I really don't like change at all. I think if the NFL is going alter OT rules, then they need to replicate the NCAA OT rules. At the same time, shouldn't whats good for the post-season be good for the regular season?
