ESPN.com - The Penguins and Sidney Crosby are finalizing a new contract that will be worth $104.4M over 12 years, according to an ESPN.com report.

The Penguins announced the deal Thursday on their website. The contract will carry an average salary of about $8.7M a season, although it will be front-loaded.

The new contract would go into effect for the 2013-14 season.
better hope he holds up for that.

Can't believe they threw that type of money to a guy with the concussion history.
He's great when healthy, but still a bit risky.

You're right, Rip. He could be one headshot away from a career ending concussion. Not a fan of these big ass contracts.

How many games has Crosby played in like the last year or two?

You have to take the risk because on the open market he's gonna get A SHIT TON more than this and that's obvious.

He's the best player in the league and they're getting him for a bargain. He wants to be a Penguin for life and took a front loaded long term deal. They have faith in him obviously if they want to give them this kind of money.

I am perfectly fine with this.

shelly is right, as risky as this is, Crosby is too high caliber of a player to not take chances on

probably a smart decision by the Pens

That's what I'm saying

And with an 8.7M cap hit, not bad at all to keep him there like that.

It'll also help attract other players because who doesn't want to play with Sidney Crosby since he's gonna be there forever?

Great signing by a diehard Pens fan here. Do whatever you can to lock up the best player in the NHL.
