Big news here as the baseball world migrates to Orlando, Florida.

According to MLB.com’s Todd Zolecki, free agent outfielder Jayson Werth is close to agreeing to a contract with the Nationals.

Didn't expect Nats to sign him but I guess he's a decent replacement for Dunn. That's a lot of length and money for him though.

Looks like all he wants now is the money, he already has the ring. More power to him.

Congrats Jayson, and congrats Carl Crawford and that good reason to ask for a lot more money now.

It's official. Damn, everyone said the Nats wouldn't do <Censored> this off-season either. Good for them. Probably not a great move because they moved Bryce to RF though and I'm sure he'll be up before that 7 year deal is up.

Werth can play LF then. Used to play LF full-time a few years ago.

The Nats have always had money, just no one wanted to play for them. They offered Tex a big deal but he went to the Yankees and that's just what we know about them offering for guys.

And I can't believe he got more than Holliday did. Holliday has a much better track record.

Crawford is still out there. You're probably better off with him anyway.

I know we would be, the problem is I don't see the Tigers outbidding the Red Sox/Yankees/Angels for him.
I hope we do though.

The more I think about it the more awful this deal looks. He doesn't play a premier defensive position, he isnt a franchise type player, and he isnt the missing cog that the Nationals need to go over the top. Wow, 7 years is a long time and I hope Werth enjoys all those miserable years with the Nationals.

As long as the deal doesn't include a no-trade, I can't see him stay there for long. Clearly Werth was only thinking about the cash.

at least he has a ring lol

but hard not to have a good time when you're getting THAT much
holy cow

he's 32 in May.
he's going to be 39 getting 18M. rofl

awful deal
he's in his prime now. he's perfect for a really good team. but on the nats, he'll waste the remainder of his prime years, and if everything goes to plan and the nats start winning in a few years, he's declining when they will need his bat most

wow. congrats to him though

Definitely helps he already has a ring. Although, if he didn't, he probably wouldn't of even left Philly in the first place. Too bad the Tigers didn't snag him. Good luck with the Nats Werth.

noones gonna take on that salary and years.

Red Sox only offered him like 4 years. He's pretty much guaranteed 3 more years past that and I guarantee he's stuck in Washington where he will rot.
