MLB expected to suspend Braun, A-Rod, others

According to ESPN's T.J. Quinn and Mike Fish, Major League Baseball is "expected to suspend [Ryan] Braun and [Alex] Rodriguez, along with as many as 20 players sometime after next week's All-Star break."

MLB investigators began digging into the Biogenesis records last month with the cooperation of the clinic's founder, Anthony Bosch, and are ready to announce suspensions now that cases have been built against the players who are suspected of purchasing PEDs from Bosch and his associates. Those sentences will of course be appealed, and the process of reviewing those appeals could take a while. Braun refused to answer some questions during MLB's investigation and could face a 100-game suspension. A-Rod might also get 100 games. This is happening.

There goes my Fantasy squads with Braun lol.

Johnny Peralta must not know how to operate steroids, because he's still fat.

There is a ZERO percent chance Ryan Braun will serve a 100 game suspension.

In MLB Rules for performance-enhancing drugs, a FIRST offense is not a 100 game suspension. Ryan Braun, while accused of such for a while, has not been acquitted with a first offense yet. So while Alex Rodriguez very well may be getting a 100 game suspension, if the MLB gives Braun a 100 game suspension, his defense attorney will have significant leverage in him not serving it. A 60 game suspension for Braun would do it, however

I believe the MLB is trying to argue that, when they talked to him last year during the appeals process or w/e it was, that he lied to them about knowingly receiving HGH or Steroids. And thus, that first offense would still count.

As for Rovell saying they want to ban both of them, I just can't see that holding up in the appeals process.

I just found a story on this, it's not the MLB, it's the players.

"“They want him taken down if in fact there is evidence he used PEDs. The players have a strong sentiment about that,” Olney said as a guest on ESPN Radio’s SVP and Russillo on Wednesday. “They want him taken down so badly. Every clubhouse I go into, players are asking me about him.”

I mean maybe Major League Baseball feels the same way and wants him out for good, but I don't see that happening.

If Braun can avoid another suspension that will be incredible.

Suspensions Now Unlikely For 2013-

MLBPA executive directior Michael Weiner told reporters, including Bill Shaikin of the Los Angeles Times (on Twitter), that it is unlikely that any suspensions relating to the Biogenesis scandal will be announced this week.  He expects discussions to take place between the union and the commissioner's office within the next month with appeal hearings getting underway "as soon as September" (Twitter links).
Furthermore, he explained that suspensions are subject to negotiations with the league office and without an agreement between the two parties, it's unlikely that players will miss time in the 2013 season, tweets Danny Knobler of CBSSports.com.  The MLBPA chief added that 50-game suspensions may not apply to non-analytical positive results with the length of suspension open for discussion, Jeff Passan of Yahoo Sports tweets.
On a non-Biogenesis note, Weiner opined that the current schedule "sucks" and said that it will be a big topic in the next Collective Bargaining Agreement, Knobler tweets.  The current CBA will be in effect until December 1st, 2016.
Last week, Weiner spoke out against the leaks that have come out in recent weeks regarding the Biogenesis situation.  The most recent leak was a sizable one as T.J. Quinn and Mike Fish of ESPN.com reported that the commissioner's office was planning to suspend Ryan Braun, Alex Rodriguez, and as many as 20 players sometime after the All-Star break.
