NEW YORK -- The inevitable came to pass this morning: The Mets have dismissed general manager Omar Minaya and manager Jerry Manuel. Both men met with COO Jeff Wilpon this morning, where they were informed of the organization's decision.
The Mets informed Manuel that they will not exercise the option for next year in his contract, therefore parting ways with their manager of the last two-and-a-half seasons.
Minaya's fate is a bit less certain. Though he has been relieved of his duties as general manager, the possibility remains that he will stay with the club in a different capacity. He has two years and at least $2 million remaining on his contract.

The search for their replacements will begin immediately following a move that had been brewing for weeks. During the weekend, reports leaked about their imminent departures.
Until the general manager position is filled, assistant general manager John Ricco will run the front office.
Minaya took over before the 2005 season, and his initial results were impressive. In 2006, a team stocked with veterans finished one game short of the World Series. The Mets have not been back to the playoffs since. Injuries and impetuous signings doomed the club.
After firing Willie Randolph midway through the 2008 season, Minaya promoted Manuel, then the bench coach. Manuel received a two-year extension that offseason. In his time with the Mets, he compiled a 204-213 record.

I honestly don't think Minaya was that bad of a GM. The Wilpons are really the ones to blame in NY. They've been controlling everything, Minaya is just a figurehead. Who in the world would have known that Jason Bay would forget how to hit after they signed him? People said it was for too many years and too much money but no one saw him completely collapsing from last season.

If they weren't decimated with injuries last year, I think they could have been a really good team.

Now that there is going to be a new manager and a new GM, I honestly think they should just clean house. Move Bay, K-Rod, and Beltran for whatever you can get. Get rid of Reyes' injury prone ass. Keep Ike Davis and some of their young pitching the MLB roster and move everything else.
