Sounds like a bidding war to me.....The 23-year-old ace of the Seattle Mariners, Felix Hernandez, is under contract through 2011. So the team has reportedly decided to make a push for a contract extension this off-season and if it can't get that done, a potential trade of the big arm, according to Sports Illustrated.
It would be tough to trade a guy who has already won 14 games, has a 100 mile per hour fastball, and has struck out 179 in 185.3 innings so far this year. But they might as well see what they can get. Six teams came after Hernandez at the trading deadline this summer, including the Detroit Tigers, Boston Red Sox, and Tampa Bay Rays.
Perhaps Hernandez would like to end up with the Chicago White Sox where fellow Venezuelan (and Hernandez's supposed pitching idol) Freddy Garcia is pitching. After all, it was Garcia's existence on the Mariners roster that convinced the young Hernandez to initially take their offer over ones from the Houston Astros, New York Yankees, and Atlanta Braves, with the latter supposedly offering him more money than Seattle.
