Manny Acta was asked if he would bunt more when he was hired

[background=rgb(248, 248, 248)]This would have been an opportunity for Acta to simply tell the fan what he wanted to hear, but instead he turned the tables on him, asking him if he would let one of his best hitters bunt with a man on first and none out in order to get the runner into scoring position. The fan answered in the affirmative, and Acta quickly told him he was wrong, before launching into his sabermetric-aided beliefs. He said unless the hitter in question is batting below .240, the stats suggest that you’re better off letting the hitter swing away.

“People think it’s the absolute right thing to bunt [in that situation],” Acta said, “but you need to check the stats. Back in the day, we didn’t have computers, we didn’t have Twitter, we didn’t have Facebook. They’ve come up with some things that make you open your eyes and not play like Casey Stengel used to play.”[/background]

Would kill to have Manny as my manager. wtf Tribe?

Players were tuning him out. He never stood up for them on the field. Alomar Jr. is probably going to become the full time manager.

Surprised he didn't get a managing gig before this.

You're going to be hard pressed to find a team willing to give a guy who has had numerous amounts of 90 loss seasons another job. It'll take a few years before anyone considers him.

And apparently the Indians search for a manager is between Sandy Alomar Jr. and Terry Francona. I'd rather just stick with Alomar.

I would think Francona would rather manage a team that is committed to winning, that will spend the extra money to get the right players. If given the opportunity between the Tigers and Indians, I'm pretty sure he'd take the Tigers, but you never know.

hes just the guy i want. i dont think we'll get him or even go after him because of us probably not wanting to give him free reign to the roster.

He has ties to the Indians, that's the reason he'd consider them.

I think there's a good chance they will pursue him, I don't see Leyland being back next year. Not because he will be fired but because he will retire. It will be a mutual agreement for both sides to move on, but that's just my guess. He would have a lot of core pieces to work with and I'm sure he'd love that.

I don't think he will come back, I see about a 30% chance of that happening. I fully believe this is his last year as manager. I respect him for all he's done, I don't want to see him fired and I don't think it will go down that way. My guess is the Indians go with Sandy Alomar Jr.

Francona is interested in Indians' job: "I wouldn't come in and interview if I wasn't." Declined to say more until a more appropriate time.
Interesting decision for the Indians. Both would be big name hires for the Tribe fan base to try and increase ticket sales.

If the Indians owners actually throw some money at him, this looks likely.

And again, I'd rather just give Alomar the job.
