The Trail Blazers on Thursday were awarded with two awards given by the Pro Basketball Writers Association, as Brandon Roy was voted as the winner of the Magic Johnson Award while the Blazers were voted as having the best public relations staff in the league.

The Magic Johnson Award was established in 2001 to recognize the player who best combines excellence on the court with cooperation with the media and fans. He beat out finalists Pau Gasol of the Lakers, Danny Granger of Indiana and Chris Bosh of Toronto. Last year, Roy was a finalist but the Lakers' Derek Fisher won.

"We are very proud to have Brandon join a group of outstanding previous winners of the Magic Johnson Award,'' said Doug Smith, president of the PBWA. "As one of the young generation of NBA stars, his ability and willingness to meet the ever-increasing demands of the media with honesty, consistency and respect for the needs of writers and broadcasters - and by extension the fans - makes him a very worthy addition to an impressive list of former winners.''

Previous winners:

2001 - Ray Allen
2002 - Elton Brand
2003 - Jalen Rose
2004 - Jermaine O'Neal
2005 - Antawn Jamison
2006 - Grant Hill
2007 - Shane Battier
2008 - Derek Fisher
2009 - Brandon Roy

Congrats Roy. I would`ve went with Roy or Granger. Maybe Granger could be in the running for next year.
