After a season that saw him score 21 goals and 62 points for the Toronto Maple Leafs, forward Clarke MacArthur has signed a two-year, $6.5-million contract to stay in Toronto.

The 26-year old MacArthur had a career year last season, nearly doubling his best regular-season point total.

The Thrashers turned down a $2.4-million ruling for MacArthur at the end of last season, which led to Toronto signing him as an unrestricted free agent.

During his five years in the NHL, the Lloydminster, Alberta native has spent time with the Buffalo Sabres and Atlanta Thrashers, accumulating 65 goals and 85 assists, while appearing in 290 career games.

MacArthur was originally drafted by the Sabres in the third round of the 2003 NHL Entry Draft.

Good deal by both sides. He will be tested to see if he can repeat last year.

On most teams he isn't. He just had great success playing with Kulemin and Grabovski, which caused all three to have breakout seasons.

Most likely like this, or something similar

Lupul - Connolly - Kessel
Kulemin - Grabovski - MacArthur
Armstrong - Bozak* - Kadri
Orr - Boyce - Brown

Aulie - Phaneuf
Schenn - Franson
Gunnarsson - Liles

Komisarek as the 7th defense, but hopefully he is moved to a team trying to reach the cap floor

Reimer
Gustavsson

*Dropped to fourth line pending Lombardi's health.

I like what he has done, considering previous management of JFJ left him with almost nothing, but aging players, and Cliff Fletcher didn't do much either.

And yeah, I hope we sign a veteran back up, not confident with Gustavsson there. (Maybe Turco?)

Nice signing. Let's hope he can repeat what he did this coming season.
