If he returns for a 12th NFL season, free-agent linebacker Keith Bulluck said he wants it to be with one of three teams: the Detroit Lions, New York Giants or New England Patriots.

Bulluck started eight games for the Giants last year, in his return from ACL surgery. He spent his first 10 seasons with the Tennessee Titans, where he played for Lions coach Jim Schwartz.

“First and foremost, New York because they gave me an opportunity to come and continue my career, really get healthy, where I needed to be,” Bulluck said when asked about his preferred landing spots in an interview today on SiriusXM NFL Radio. “Detroit. I like what Schwartz is doing up there. Last year, I wasn’t prepared physically to play and do the things that they would need me to do, but now I feel I am. New England is always veteran-friendly, and I know, every year, they’re in contention of winning.

“Like I say, I want to win, really. At this point in my career, financially, me and my family are fine. But I definitely would like to be in a position to play myself into maybe possibly being one of the top-paid linebackers in the league again. Definitely one of the top players in the league.”

Bulluck told the Newark Star-Ledger after the season he planned to play again only if he could land a full-time role.

The Lions return just one starter at linebacker -- DeAndre Levy -- and have jobs up for grabs at both outside positions. But it’s doubtful Bulluck would be an every-down linebacker in Detroit. Bobby Carpenter is a free agent and wants to re-sign with the Lions, Zack Follett is coming off a serious neck injury but signed his tender offer and hopes to play next year, and Ashlee Palmer should compete for a job as an exclusive-rights free agent.

Bulluck said he sees similarities between the Lions and the Titans teams he was on under Schwartz.

“In Tennessee, we always had horses up front,” Bulluck said. “We had (Albert) Haynesworth, and we had Tony Brown, Robaire Smith, a plethora of guys that will get it done. Now they have two big first-rounders (Ndamukong Suh and Nick Fairley), and with Kyle (Vanden Bosch) up front, I know his veteran leadership is definitely going to have his D-line in order. For them to be taking up double teams and have the linebackers run sideline to sideline, I think that’s very important.”

Of Schwartz, Bulluck said "his desire to win" makes him an appealing coach to players.

“I remember one year, I think it was his first year as a coordinator, we got beat real bad in Minnesota, and the look that he had on his face, he felt like he let down like the whole state of Tennessee,” Bulluck said. “And some of our losses, when our defense didn’t play so well, I can see it in his eyes. As a football player or as an athlete, you can look into a competitor’s eyes and see what’s going on, at some point, and I know that he’s definitely a competitor. He worked his way up to be one of the top coordinators, and now he’s trying to be one of the top head coaches, rightfully so. Someone like Schwartz ... he’s going to give it his all, so it makes the players want to give it their all.”

Definitely a good possibility, I'm sure Schwartz would love to have him again. Bulluck isn't the player he use to be but I think it would be a decent addition for the Lions. I think they could do better though, the LB position for the Lions is a weakness right now but they need to address the CB position as well so it will be interesting to see what they do.

If we can get one good CB, I think we can be alright back there. People forget that Nathan Vasher ended the season quite well, Houston was pretty solid, and Smith could be real good still.

You heard it there folks. So just cross off every fucking FA who said they would like to play for New England, because Kraft and BB will NOT sign him..

But really.

This move would be decent to try and help a young, developing defense with some nice young talent. He isn't going to bring long term depth at all, but he's going to be a pretty solid mentor for the Lions if this happens.

Bulluck is serviceable. I will not be unhappy with signing him whatsoever. Especially on a thin LB core.
