NFL.com - Jaguars running back Maurice Jones-Drew has come out in support of veteran quarterback David Garrard.

Jacksonville used the 10th overall pick in April's NFL Draft on Missouri quarterback Blaine Gabbert.

Jones-Drew, who has rushed for over 1,300 yards in back-to-back seasons, said Monday on "NFL Total Access" that the offense needed more time to develop, not a new face of the franchise.

"I just feel like what we needed as an offense wasn't a new quarterback, we just needed another year amongst each other because we had a lot of new players come in," Jones-Drew said.

"You see a team like the Patriots or the Steelers or the Colts, those guys (have) been in the same system for the 10, 12 years together, and so that's what we're trying to grow right now."

Jones-Drew admitted he was "very shocked" that the Jags used their first pick on a quarterback.

Media is really making more out of this than what it actually is.

MJD doesn't want to shoot down Garrard, simple fact.

Truth it, it was time to draft a new QB. Most of the QBs that are somewhat productive are what? 1st round picks. Gabbert was a prospect that Gene Smith and company fell inlove with, and he was at a reasonable spot.. so we went up and grabbed him. Forget trying to draft a QB later and trying to develop.

Gabbert has all the tools, and the kid has a good head on his shoulders and hes smart.

Garrard plays best when hes underpressure. So if Gabbert comes into Training Camp and wins the Battle, then I'm fine knowing that Garrard gave it his all and Gabbert was the better man. If Garrard wins that doesn't mean Gabbert sucks, just means he needs time to learn the system.

Garrard is like 33/34..

Time for a change..

The media is full of dumbfucks tho.

The writing was on the wall for David for quite some time. This is a pretty young team that is trying to make the push over the hump, and they need the youthful leader to do that. Blaine Gabbert is who they think will be that guy.

Gene Smith like kam said made sense of taking Gabbert at a pretty good spot in the draft, and this pick for the future made a ton of sense for the Jags. Let them battle and see who deserves the spot in this point in time for the next season, but this is Blaine's team for the future and they are fine with that.
