The long-awaited expansion of baseball's instant replay system has become a reality.
Major League Baseball announced Thursday that owners voted unanimously to subject most calls to instant replay, starting this year, after securing approval from unions representing players and umpires.

...

Calls subject to review include home runs, ground-rule doubles, fan interference, force plays -- except for touching second base on a double play, the so-called neighborhood rule -- tag plays, fly balls ruled fair, foul or trapped balls, whether a runner left a base too early or passed another runner, and whether a batter was hit by a pitch.

Whether a batter was hit by a pitch interesting.

It might slow down what already is a slow game but as long as they get the calls right, that's all I care about..

what a disgrace that was. whats more annoying is the league is so afraid to change shit they know is wrong. its not like the outcome would have changed.

About damn time. I don't get why it has taken this long.

Should've been done a long time ago, but it's nice to see baseball isn't living in the past, and catching up with the other sports, in the replay aspect. I don't care about if it slows down the game, because I'm fine with watching longer games, and I doubt it will make the game that significantly longer. I could be wrong, it could add 30 minutes to an hour, each game will be different with the plays and all.

If they do it right it wouldn't take more than a minute to correct a call. Have someone watching the replays of the game, and when a call is disputed, have them talk to the ump via an ear-piece on what the right call is. Simple.

If the call is that close, then have the umps gather and watch it together. Really only need one guy otherwise.

I mean replays now, don't take that long to figure things out. Depending on the situation, sometimes it can take a long time, but that tends to include skippers arguing the calls. It shouldn't be much different, just more things to review. Might even be quicker, than the current process.
