After the 2018 season he is a free agent

Recent extensions in the MLB:
Giancarlo Stanton, 13 years, $325 million
Miguel Cabrera, 10 years, 292 million
Mike Trout, 6 years, 144.5 million (2 years of service time only)

2015 League Ranks:
• 1st in NL in BA (.340)
• 1st in NL in HR (40)
• 1st in NL in SLG (.667)
• 1st in NL in OPS (1.135)

Also 1st in wRC+, and ahead by a comfortable margin in WAR. He's only 22, and he'll be up for a mega extension once he goes through his arbitration years (something Trout did not do).

Make a prediction on the contract he will get in 2019. If this place is still kickin then it might be fun to see how close anyone got.

10/$300. At that age it will be worth the years, and I really don't think anyone is as crazy as Jeffrey Loria to dish out more than 10 years.

Y'all think he's worth more than Trout at this point? I mean maybe he'll get a bigger contract but is he actually worth more than Trout?

Trout got an extension before he even hit arbitration. He had to take less to get the Angels to buy those years out. Harper will be past arbitration, completely different situation.

He's not. But I'm not the General Manager of a baseball team that is looking at a 25/26 year old Free Agent who is currently, this year, hitting 40 HRs w/ a .340 avg.

Let's say the next two years he averages .310 w/ 30 HRs - you don't think the Yankees & Dodgers will be offering 10 year contracts?

Easily, especially with how young he is. I just look at Trout as an extremely versatile player... who if he waits out his arbitration, he gets the biggest deal in baseball... not that he didn't already have a huge deal already... Now I'm almost certain that Harper will be up their with perhaps the biggest contract in baseball... I mean the dude came in the league with the highest of expectations, he was on Sports Illustrated in school, and I had the issue lol. It's actually going to be scary to see the number Harper gets considering what Stanton got.

I guess me, personally, I'm a bigger fan of Trout because how good he is everywhere on the board. I wish he was still stealing bases as frequently as before, but really he does it all lol. And once his speed goes, he'll still have the power... he's not going to turn into Carl Crawford lol.

I don't get your point though. We're not comparing the two players. Trout's probably going to make more in his entire career anyway. He'll be what, 28 when his deal ends at the end of 2020? And he's making $34M+ in 2018-2020.

Not really making a point just was posing another question guess I can see why it was misinterpreted.

More than Miggy but less than Stanton overall. The Nationals arent that stupid to give out a 13 year contract but the per year will he higher than Stantons because that contract is backloaded.

What makes you think the Nationals will be the ones that sign him?

The Nationals owner is the richest owner in MLB

That doesn't mean anything.

The owners of the Oakland Athletics are worth over 1.4 Billion but they don't spend a lot.

If you think an owners net worth is what determines who is going to dish out the biggest contract then you're nuts. Yankees, Dodgers, Red Sox will be at the front of the Harper contract pursuit.

It'd be dumb of the Nationals to not get him extended though. This could be one of the best players of all time or in their history. I don't see him leaving Washington easily

It's going to be a bidding war. Scott Boras is his agent, he'es hitting the Free Agent Market.

The Nationals overpaid for Werth and offered Texeiria a huge contract. They will do the same for Bryce and I see him staying. Not signing him would be crippling to that franchise.
