Hideki Matsui retiring as a Yankee

Hideki Matsui will sign a one-day contract with the Yankees on July 28.

 
Matsui will officially announce his retirement and be honored at Yankee Stadium. The 38-year-old drew free agent interest this winter but decided against returning for an 11th season. Matsui has a career .282/.360/.462 batting line with 175 home runs and 176 RBI over 1,236 total games in the major leagues.
