Giants Make Cain Richest Right-Hander In History

The Giants have worked out a new contract with Matt Cain that will make him the richest right-hander in baseball history.

Cain, who is set to earn about $15 million in the last year of his contract, will receive a five-year extension for a guaranteed $112.5 million, according to sources.

The guaranteed money includes a $5 million signing bonus and a $7.5 million buyout in 2018.

Cain also receives a full no-trade clause.

The previous record for a right-handed pitcher was Kevin Brown's $105 million contract the Dodgers gave him after the 1998 season.

Richest, but he isnt even the best pitcher on his own team. He's a great pitcher dont get me wrong, its just nuts giving out those contracts of 25 million dollars per year for 1 pitcher.

He deserves it. He's been around for a long time and has been a quality player and one of the best pitchers in the league in the past few seasons. He could have gotten a lot more on the open market but I'm glad he's sticking around. Lincecum will be due some money like this, but more so that whole "not the best on his own team" argument may be true, but you can't deny that this isn't a deserving extension.

i think secretly the Giants are prepping to let Lincecum leave
his velocity is dropping and im sure they don't think he'll last the duration of the new deal he will get
he also isn't throwing his slider anymore because it hurts his elbow. red flag

so they lock up Cain who they project to age better.
