Its not a double standard. White people almost exclusively were the ones who used it during the slavery era in a doragetory way. It is used as just slang when it pertains to other races, because they didn't enslave their race and call them that instead of actual names.

If you can't see that, I don't know what to tell you.

It is a double standard.  Slavery is long gone my friend and like I said, if it's such a sensitive, derogatory term...then stop using it to greet your buddy and take that shit out of rap lyrics.

Look, I get it and believe me, I wouldn't be as dumb as Riley Cooper to say some shit like that, on camera, when I share a locker room that is predominantly black.  But I don't want to hear anyone call Riley Cooper a "racist POS" because he used the N-Word in a drunken rage.  Using the "N-word" in that situation doesn't make Riley Cooper a racist, it makes him a drunken idiot.

How can we assume Riley Cooper is a racist and at the same time, make excuses for Desean Jackson and dismiss his attempts to (at least appear to) be a gang-banger?

Typical ignorant response to try and undermine the inequality and racism that minorities face everyday.

Also, found this to be very funny and true.

I hate DJax probably more than any player ever. (For his antics on the field and the trash talk)
But his record is clean. I'm not going to label him a fucking "gangbanger" because he reps where he's from. That's fucking stupid.

I highly, highly doubt an NFL team would flat out release a 1300 yard receiver, in the prime of his life, coming off the best season of his career, based on unsubstantiated gang related rumors.  There has to be more here than just repping where he's from.

he may "rep" where hes from but all his boys are known crips. i have a lot of friends who are latin counts, and youre guilty by association. by the cops, other gangs, and other people. he also has tattoos all pointing to being a crip.

all that being said, to me, hes clean, let him be until proven otherwise.

Also, I don't think most employers would tolerate their employees throwing up gang signs, and embracing that particular lifestyle on social media. It's one thing to be proud of where you're from, and who you are... it's a different animal when you're promoting gang culture as a representative of a billion dollar franchise.

Yes, minorities are still incredibly oppressed and persecuted against in this country...despite the fact a majority of major athletes and the President of the United States is black.

[sarcasm]

Nope...the unfortunate truth in this country is the media still targets the naive and successfully fuels this imaginary race war.  We literally live in a culture where, despite any proven facts, Travon Martin is automatically innocent and the white man is guilty.   Or how about, regardless of how fucking awful he is as Commander-in-Chief, speak out against Obama and you are a immediately labeled a racist.

Get a grip, this is the 21st century and today we actually put more unqualified people in important positions because we're so obsessed with "equal opportunity" in this nation.

Agreed, but to an extent.

At the end of the sports is entertainment. The entertainment industry plays by different rules than the financial industry, fashion industry, etc. Do musicians not promote gang culture as a representative of a billion dollar record label? It's the same idea when it comes down to it.

Do you know what percentage of the population are athletes? Lmfao at that argument.

Idgaf is Obama is president that nigga didn't do shit fuck him.

Nobody is "fueling an imaginary war", just acknowledging the fact that there are still a shit load of racist people in the world.

Do you read?  A majority of professional athletes are minority...didn't say a majority of the population was.

There's a lot of racist people on this planet, yes, but how do you know Riley Cooper is one of them?  Because he used the "N-word?"  Please...
