Drew Brees, Saints still apart

The New Orleans Saints and quarterback Drew Brees still remain a ways apart in their efforts to produce a long-term contract, according to league sources.

If the two sides cannot make considerable progress from where they are today, the Saints will be forced to use their franchise tag on Brees by the Monday deadline.

Brees will get something done, he's a team player

They have to get a long-term deal done, and they will. The franchise tag will eat up their room to resign Nicks, Colston, etc. I think Meachem is also eligible for free agency.

I think being far apart is a bit overblown. Probably more apart in terms of years and little things in the contract as well. But the $$ per year is probably as good as they can offer.

They just need to pay the dude. He is the best player the Saints have ever had, hes also an excellent team player. Something will get done because the Saints arent stupid.

The Saints reworked Will Smith's contract, saving them about 6M in cap space. That is a huge help.

Now they need to get Vilma and Bushrod to rework their deals. Bushrod having the second highest cap hit on the team is a tragedy.

Man it would be insane if Brees went to Free Agency. I know hes not going to, but if he did he would be the greatest free agent of the past 10-15 years.
