Dontrelle Willis struggled today in his second appearance of spring training, allowing four runs, and afterward told Matt Gelb of the Philadelphia Inquirer: “I was horse[bleep].”

Willis also indicated that he was pitching through some arm fatigue–which isn’t a great sign so early in camp–and Jim Salisbury of CSNPhilly.com reports that he’ll be “checked out” by team doctors tomorrow for a “sore arm.”

Willis hasn’t been healthy and effective in the same season since 2006 and posted a 5.00 ERA with 37 walks in 76 innings for the Reds last season, yet got a one-year, $1 million contract from the Phillies to serve as their left-handed specialist.
It's time to become a position player smh lol.

Dude is one of my favorite players in the league. Sucks to see him fall this far. Hopefully he can get things going.

"The Phillies released left-handed pitcher Dontrelle Willis on Friday morning. Willis, 30, was attempting to make the switch from starting pitcher to reliever to make the Phillies roster but that attempt fell short and ended on Friday. The Phillies hoped Willis would be able to be a lefty specialist out of the bullpen. Last season, Willis limited lefties to a .127 average but during spring training, Willis gave up five runs in just 2.2 innings. He also experienced some arm soreness but told trainers he felt OK, which seemed to bother pitching coach Rich Dubee."

Hopefully he'll catch on somewhere. He was my favorite player when he was traded to the Tigers. The 21 in my username is for Dontrelle's number on the tigers lol.
