you are really underestimating the Dodgers

new ownership will have deep pockets. jayson stark had a GM say they will be "Yankees West"

easier division than the AL and NL East and close to home

Players salaries don't usually come out of the owners pocket. It comes out of the TV deals, the ticket sales, the jersey sales, shit like that, which is why nobody complains about having poor owners, they complain about being small-market teams.

Nobody makes more money from those types of things than the Yankees which is why they can outspend any team for any player. It helps that the Steinbrenners have always been willing to throw in that extra cash that they really can't afford based on the money the team makes, but they've taken it out of their pockets.

I complain about having both a poor owner and being in a small market. Well not poor, just cheap.

shithole of the Dodgers?

the shithole is almost gone. players do want to play for us, they just havent been able to

hell, this offseason CJ Wilson said he wished the Dodgers were in on the bidding since he lives in LA and wanted to pitch in the NL

I agree the Dodgers arent a great team, but look at what happened this past year. The Diamondbacks came out of nowhere and won the division and went to the playoffs. They dont even have a big payroll and they play in Arizona. The Dodgers have 2 very nice pieces they can build around for many years to come in Kemp and Kershaw. A few prospects here and there and a signing like Votto and they can definitely compete in the West.

dodgers will compete this year and would have been better last year but 2 things happened

1. they started off so poorly by the time they started to play better, az was too hot
2. dodgers in august were red hot. they won something like 11/12 but at the same time, Arizona won 12 straight so the Dodgers ended up losing ground with their hot play lol

dodgers wouldnt have won the division last year, but they should have been 2nd instead of the Giants

if Arizona falls back a little to the pack, this division is wide open again. (Arizona probably still the favorite, but not in a runaway)

Dodgers Offered Fielder Seven-Year Deal

By Ben Nicholson-Smith [January 26, 2012 at 12:10pm CST]

The Dodgers pushed hard for Prince Fielder for weeks and thought they had a legitimate chance of signing him, Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com reports. They offered a seven-year deal worth a little more than $160MM that would have provided the first baseman with the chance to opt out after four seasons. Fielder would have earned $26MM or so for the first four years of the deal and $20MM-plus for its final three years.

The Dodgers met Fielder at an undisclosed location a few weeks ago and outgoing owner Frank McCourt approved the team's proposal. Though the Dodgers aren't unhappy with James Loney, they wanted to add an elite bat to their lineup. The Nationals and Tigers were also finalists for Fielder, whose nine-year, $214MM deal becomes official at a press conference in Detroit this afternoon.

7/160 with an opt out after 4 years would have been a perfect deal for Prince
