FOXSports.com said:The Dodgers, bolstering their starting rotation, have obtained right- hander Jon Garland from the Diamondbacks, according to a major-league sources.
The deal occurred minutes before the deadline for setting post-season rosters at midnight ET Monday.
They already have. A very disgruntled Ken Williams had put up all his big money talent on the block today. So the White Sox are getting ready to hang it up?
Jon Heyman/SI/Twitter - According to a Twitter report from Sports Illustrated's Jon Heyman, Jim Thome and Jon Garland have been dealt to the Dodgers. The White Sox have also dealt Jose Contreras to the Colorado Rockies.
The players that will be sent to the White Sox in return are not yet known.
RealGM Note: James Loney has yet to deliver on the promise he showed in limited time during the 2006 and 2007 seasons, as he has an OPS of .740 this season.
Thome has an .874 OPS and 23 homers this season, but he has played just 28 innings at first base over the past four seasons.
not bad. not bad at allSI.com's Jon Heyman reports that the Dodgers have acquired Jim Thome. The White Sox will receive infielder Justin Fuller in the deal, and are sending cash to LA that will presumably cover part, or all or Thome's salary according to Mark Gonzales of The Chicago Tribune.
Fuller, 26, was the Dodgers 11th round pick in 2006, and is hitting .254-.340-.418 in 205 at-bats for High Class-A Inland Empire.
Pretty expensive add-ons. Thome is just to keep him from playing 1B in San Fran...and Garland...well 8-11 with an ERA over 4.Damn you guys got them for like nothing.
I know it's expensive, but that's not saying this won't help them. This is nothing but help.Pretty expensive add-ons. Thome is just to keep him from playing 1B in San Fran...and Garland...well 8-11 with an ERA over 4.
Agreed. Not bad for depth tho. And basically free.neither player is going to "help" a team get over the hump in my opinion. fortunately, LAD gave up almost to nothing to get
