DeMar DeRozan will be a free agent for the first time in his career and he was asked about whether he thinks he might find a situation better than the Toronto Raptors.

"I don't think so," said DeRozan. "My mindset has always been Toronto... I don't want to switch it up now."

DeRozan has emerged as an All-Star with the Raptors and he figures to command a max contract.

Would you max him?

The NBA has to get away from non-max players getting max contracts.

That's like saying get rid of auctions in general. If there's someone willing to spend more than somebody else on a certain player you can't do anything about it.

The non max players should just all agree to take non max contracts tbh

As much as I would like to see DeRozan stay, I have a feeling that he'd go where the most money is.

Well Toronto can offer the most money, so if they lose him it's because they didn't want him bad enough

I still feel like he's going to LA. He'd be the "star" there and they have young pieces for the future... Plus it's LA. Toronto is a decent team, but as long as LeBron is still kicking in the East that "situation" is going nowhere.

same goes for the lakers. he could be ready for his next contract before theyre ready to compete, if they do it the development way.

How far have the Lakers fallen for their prized free agent to potentially be DeRozan, and only because he's from the area.

Are there much better free agents this summer other than Durant?

You're right, Boban not openly being linked to the lakers points to that franchise going down the tubes

The term max is so vague. The max he is eligible for is the max he should get.

He's a very limited player though. His best "asset" is his ability to shoot long 2s, which are the worst shot in the game. He's still young and has upside, but he's probably not "worth" a max. He'll obviously get one now that role players are going to get paid out of the ass though with the cap jumping.

That is true, but if you're as good at it as he is, then you're still valuable.

No question, I guess that was poor phrasing. He's kind of like the tier below "max player" in my eyes, but he is young, has upside, and can still play the game. I just wouldn't feel comfortable with him being "the guy" on my team and that's what I think about with a max contract.
