The Pirates might actually want to trade with the Yankees for A.J. Burnett.

Pittsburgh clearly wants another starting pitcher and they have spoken to New York about the right-hander.

Before Edwin Jackson signed a one-year deal with the Nationals, the Pirates offered Jackson both a one- and three-year contract.

Burnett, 35, wants to stay with the Yankees and be their fifth starter, according to a source with knowledge of the situation.
Take him lol.

Yankees Want Garrett Jones In Deal With Pirates For Burnett

The Yankees and Pirates have been in discussion about a trade that would send A.J. Burnett to Pittsburgh.

New York would like to receive first baseman/outfielder Garrett Jones back as part of their compensation.

Jones hit .243 with 16 homers, 30 doubles, and six stolen bases.

However, Pittsburgh is "not interested in moving Jones" and there is "no traction so far," according to a report.

Talks Between Yankees, Pirates Moving Forward

The Pirates and Yankees have moved forward in talks about a trade that would send right-hander A.J. Burnett to Pittsburgh, according to an industry source.

Garrett Jones, previously reported as a player the Yankees wanted to acquire in the deal, is not believed to be part of the discussions.

It seems that Pittsburgh would prefer to assume more of Burnett's salary rather than part with players from their organization.
