As confirmed by agent Drew Rosenhaus, Cardinals' running back Edgerrin James has asked to be released from the team.
After seeing his carries dwindle and his starting job lost to Tim Hightower, James went to GM Rod Graves with the request. Graves, who still believes James is a valuable asset to his team and a 1,000 yard capable back, declined James' request.
"He is not playing now, and there are teams that are banged up at the running back position that he could help. We didn't get the answer we were hoping for," Rosenhaus told the media on Wednesday. "Edgerrin isn't trying to cause any problems. He has had a Hall of Fame career and he has enjoyed his stay in Arizona. But it's apparent that he's probably not going to be back with the Cardinals next season. If that's the case, he can move and help another team and get a start now."
James has only carried 3 times for a 5-yard total during Arizona's last few games.
The downfall of Edgerrin James confirms the fact that was obvious to me a few years ago...James was a little overrated coming from Indianapolis. A product of the Colts' offensive scheme and a guy who benefited from playing with Peyton Manning more than anybody during his days there. Just no the "home run" he was in Indy.-AE
