According to Pierre LeBrun of ESPN.com, Philadelphia is the front-runner to host the 2012 Winter Classic at Lincoln Financial Field.

And fellow ESPN.com columnist Scott Burnside suggests the New York Rangers will play opposition to the Philadelphia Flyers. As Burnside points out, the Rangers are great rivals of the Flyers and the only American-based Original Six franchise yet to participate in the event
it's not like Crosby being in two didn't piss me off enough, now they want to put the Flyers in two...
Horseshit...

The novelty behind this game ended last year...so we're heading into, "it doesn't really matter anyways", waters. I know I'm totally over how great it is to watch an NHL game, outdoor, and on a sloppy sheet of ice. This game will never measure up to how perfect 2008's version was...and it's only a matter of time before it's overplayed so much, NBC doesn't even want it.

Very curious to see how the Heritage Classic is billed on Versus.

Not to be a homer, but it would be better if a Canadian team was involved.

You're right in speaking in terms of the sport...but it wouldn't bode well for NBC and their ratings. NBC is clearly using all bigger American markets for every single Winter Classic. Buffalo might be the exception to that rule...but the Sabres were one of the better teams in the NHL around 2008.

They can't. The pinstripe bowl is reserved for around New Years for a couple of years, and the stadium wouldn't have enough time to get ready from NCAA bowl game to NHL game.

Exactly. I did hear Central Park. But they wouldn't be able to fit 50-60K fans there like the NHL wants. I must say though, that would be pretty cool.

How could you generate any sort of non-TV revenue with that?
