According to the Denver Post, the Colorado Rockies have traded C Miguel Olivo to the Toronto Blue Jays, and in return will receive cash considerations or a player to be named later -- nobody is sure yet.

The Rockies didn't have much time to decide whether to keep Olivo or release him, and doing so they would have had to pay a $500,000 buyout.

“I am little disappointed. I was looking forward to playing in Colorado again. I love my teammates and the fans and Denver were great. Look for me next year. I am ready to play now,” Says Olivo.

Now that Olivo is out of Colorado, expect Chris Ianetta to be the top choice at Catcher next season although the Rockies will probably bring in some competition.

Decent addition to the Blue Jays -- gives them a little depth at a much-needed position. Rockies seemed to be considering releasing him, or resigning him and THEN trading him. He still has a 2011 Option, which the Jays will pick up.

Plus I don't see Ianetta losing out on the starting role next season unless he has a horrendous Spring Training.

I'm kinda confused. Arencibia seemed like the front runner for the starting job at C and we recently re-signed Molina as a backup. I'm guessing AA will either trade JP and just wait for D'Arnaud or Carlos Perez to develop or they don't feel like JP is ready yet.

He's a catcher whose gone from team to team because he's an "eh" player.

I wouldnt mind him on the Mets, better than what we have.

Batted .269/.315/.449 with 14 HR and 58 RBI. Actually a down year. 2009 he hit 23 HR. Strikes out a lot, rarely walks. This year he was 117/27 K/BB.

actually not true, 2009 was an odd power-surge year. Every other year he's been like 8-14 HRs. Hes nothing special, just a veteran back-up. I don't expect him to start in Toronto.

I guess he and Molina are gonna be fighting for the back up job.

Reminds me of the Mets. They had Thole developing in AAA, they had Santos as the previous starter in MLB. They moved him to AAA as well, signed Barajas and Blanco. I think they signed someone else last offseason who ended up getting released and signed elsewhere as a backup. I forget who. FPS would probably remember.

Point is they're probably stocking up and will have 4 catchers on 2 levels who can start right away if someone is injured at the big league level.

What about John Buck in all of this?
He's already stated that he wants to be back in T-Dot but it might not happen. Jays could potentially get a sandwich pick if he signs with another club.

Yeah because I was going to say, Buck had an above average year considering his expectations.

Yeah he did. Walked his typical amount of times but struck out 100+ times for the first time in his career.

Wow damn didn't even know that they're only acquiring him to get a draft pick. He's a type B FA.

Wow I didn't see that coming. But now I know why...

Shi Davidi of The Canadian Press tweets that the Blue Jays could potentially wind up with eight picks inside of the top 50 selections in this year's draft. Toronto may get two picks for Scott Downs, two for Jason Frasor, and one each for John Buck, Kevin Gregg, and Olivo in addition to their own.
from MLBTR.

Bold move by Toronto.
