Boston's season came to an abrupt end Sunday, so outfielder Jason Bay is setting his sights on free agency rather than playing in the ALCS.
The Providence Journal said the Red Sox and Bay were close to a contract extension twice this season, but now it remains to be seen whether the team will try to retain him.
"I've gotten to this point, and as much as I would love to come back here, I make no bones about that ... I'm a little bit interested in going through the whole process, seeing what it's like and seeing what's out there," Bay told the Journal. "That really isn't going to sink in for awhile. I'm still sitting on this loss for a bit."
Sunday's Boston Globe listed San Francisco as a possible destination for Bay.
