The Angels are confident that they'll work out a new contract with infielder Erick Aybar.

Aybar is believed to be looking for a five-year, $50 million deal.

The two sides have been in talks for roughly four months.

"Erick wants to be an Angel, we want Erick to be an Angel, and I feel very confident we'll be able to work something out," general manager Jerry Dipoto said.

"We've made progress. I'm very encouraged by where we are and that we will ultimately get there."

$10 million per year?

Am I missing something?

I don't even think the jarrod's MLB Sim League Erick Aybar could get that kind of money...

That's probably why a deal hasn't been done yet. Asdrubal just got 8 mill per, and the Angels most definitely would want to pay less than that, considering he's inferior.

The Angels have reached agreement on a multiyear extension with shortstop Erick Aybar.

The team scheduled a 12:30 p.m. PT news conference for Thursday to announce the deal.

Aybar's contract will be worth a guaranteed $35M over four years, paying him an average annual salary of $8.5M, sources told Enrique Rojas of ESPNdeportesLosAngeles.com.
